What Is Sandblasting Equipment? The Purpose and Working Principle of Sandblasting Surface Treatment

Sandblasting, as a highly efficient method for cleaning the surface of workpieces, can improve the mechanical properties of the surface and enhance the fatigue resistance of the workpiece.

What is Sandblasting Equipment?

Sandblasting equipment uses compressed air as the power to form a high-speed jet stream that propels the abrasive material (glass beads, steel shot, steel grit, quartz sand, garnet, iron sand, sea sand) onto the surface of the workpiece that needs to be treated. This changes the mechanical properties of the workpiece's surface. The impact and cutting action of the abrasive on the surface ensure a certain degree of cleanliness and different roughness levels, improving the mechanical properties of the workpiece's surface. Consequently, it enhances the fatigue resistance of the workpiece, increases adhesion between the workpiece and its coating, extends the coating's durability, and facilitates the leveling and decoration of the coating. It also removes surface impurities, stubborn colors, and oxidation layers, while roughening the surface of the medium and enhancing the surface hardness and residual stress of the base material.

The Role of Sandblasting Equipment

  1. Mold Treatment: Matte finish treatment, graphic production, and mold cleaning without damaging the mold surface, ensuring mold precision.

  2. Strengthening: Increases the surface hardness of metal parts and relieves stress, such as the surface treatment of airplane blades, springs, machining tools, and weapons.

  3. Renovation of Old Parts: Cleaning and refreshing moving parts of cars, motorcycles, electromechanical equipment, etc. It also eliminates fatigue stress and extends service life.

  4. Polishing: Eliminates surface marks on all metal and non-metal products, provides a matte finish, and enhances the product's surface quality.

  5. Pre-treatment: Sandblasting treatment before processes like electroplating, painting, and coating to ensure an absolutely clean surface, significantly improving the adhesion and corrosion resistance of the coating.

  6. Burr Removal: Removes tiny burrs from machined parts and overflowing glue edges from injection-molded parts.

  7. Cleaning: Removes oxide scale, residues, dirt from casting parts, stamping parts, welded parts, heat-treated parts, and other metal workpieces. Also cleans the surface of non-metal products like ceramic blanks, removes black spots, and restores paint patterns.

  8. Etching and Anti-Slip Processing: Etches patterns or text on the surface of metal and non-metal products, provides anti-slip treatment, such as on marble, handles, stamps, and tombstones.

  9. Reworking Defective Products: Removes defective coatings and poor surface coloring and inscriptions from products.

Working Principle of Sandblasting Equipment

Sandblasting machines are specialized surface treatment devices that use high-speed airflow and abrasives to completely remove rust, deposits, oxide scales, dust, and other substances from target surfaces. This is done to achieve purposes such as warning, decoration, anti-corrosion, improving surface coverage, and enhancing surface roughness of objects.

Sandblasting machines have widespread applications in manufacturing, repair fields, construction engineering, painting industries, and many other sectors. For example, in the manufacturing industry, sandblasting machines are extensively used to remove oxidation, rust, and attachments from various products' surfaces. They are also used for surface treatment before assembly and bonding to improve adhesion and surface roughness. In construction engineering, sandblasting machines are commonly used to remove surface defects such as scratches, oil stains, and old coatings, thus enhancing surface smoothness and adhesion. In the painting industry, sandblasting machines are used for surface grinding to facilitate coating application.

Overall, sandblasting machines significantly contribute to the advancement and promotion of industrial manufacturing and surface treatment processes. They play a crucial role in ensuring high-quality surface processing results.
