Main Functions, Application Fields and Precautions of Shot Blasting Machine

The shot blasting machine is a device that uses the component called a shot blaster to eject the projectiles at high speed. This process aims to clean or strengthen the surface. Generally speaking, this type of equipment can simultaneously handle core removal, cleaning, and sand dropping. In many places, this equipment is also known as a sandblasting machine or shot blasting machine.

Main Functions of the Shot Blasting Machine

The shot blasting machine can remove the oxide scale or sand from the surface of cast steel or cast iron, playing a role in cleaning the surface of castings. It is also an essential step for quality inspection of castings. Large turbine casings must undergo shot blasting before flaw detection to ensure reliable results. The hook-type shot blasting machine is divided into single hook and double hook types, where two hooks alternately load workpieces into the shot blasting chamber. By using a steel shot blaster for sale, projectiles ranging from 0.2 to 0.8 are thrown onto the surface of the workpiece, thus achieving a certain roughness on the surface, making the workpiece appear more aesthetic or altering its compressive stress to enhance its lifespan. For castings, shot blasting is a necessary step to detect surface defects such as peeling or sub-surface air holes, ensuring a high-quality casting.

In modern metal strength theories, increasing the density of dislocations within the metal enhances its strength. Using a shot blasting machine for shot blasting operations can strengthen its dislocation structure, thereby improving the metal's strength. This method is very effective for metals that cannot undergo phase transformation hardening.

Shot blasting like pass through shot blasting machine can create compressive stress on the surface of castings, enhancing the tensile strength, corrosion resistance, and fatigue strength. It can also correct warped thin-walled castings, replacing conventional hot and cold forming processes for processing large thin-walled castings, avoiding residual tensile stress while achieving beneficial compressive stress.

Application Fields of the Shot Blasting Machine

It can be applied in the manufacture of bearings, where a smooth surface is generally required. Shot blasting can remove burrs and impurities. The shot blasting machine is different from the peening machine in that it is used to reduce the fatigue life of parts by varying surface stress, thus increasing the strength of components or preventing fretting. According to modern metal strength theories, increasing the dislocation density within the metal is a primary direction for enhancing metal strength. It is proven that shot blasting is an effective process to increase metal dislocation structures.

  1. It can be applied in shipbuilding. Most of the steel plates used in shipbuilding are rusty, and shot blasting can effectively remove the rust.

  2. It can be applied in automobile manufacturing. Many steel plates and castings used in automobiles require polishing without altering the original shape and strength of the plates. Using shot blasting can achieve polishing without physical damage to the material. Shot blasting machine parts can be used to remove burrs, diaphragms, and rust, which may affect the integrity, appearance, or definition of the part. Shot blasting machines can also remove surface contaminants from partially coated surfaces and provide a surface profile that increases coating adhesion, thus strengthening the workpiece.

  3. It can be applied in the manufacturing of hardware products. Shot blasting can meet the requirements of hardware parts in terms of flatness, smoothness, and cleanliness.

  4. It can be applied in the electroplating field, where the requirements are similar to those of hardware parts and can thus be treated similarly.

  5. It can be applied in the manufacturing of motorcycle parts, typically using drum-type equipment to complete the shot blasting operation. In addition to the above, shot blasting machines can also be used in steel plate manufacturing to handle issues such as burrs on newly manufactured steel plates. They can also be applied in valve manufacturing to grind and polish valve castings to achieve product quality requirements.

Precautions for Using a Shot Blasting Machine

Precautions before operating the shot blasting cleaning machine:

  1. The operators must check the displays on the electrical cabinet to ensure they are normal during the operation of the shot blasting machine.

  2. The directional sleeve must be adjusted and replaced in a timely manner.

  3. The operator must inspect the equipment daily, including lubricating parts and mechanical parts. Lubricating parts such as reducers, hydraulics, oil atomizers, and bearing chains; mechanical parts such as the wear of rotating parts and wearable parts. Record the wear daily and replace the worn parts of the shot blasting machine promptly.

  4. Check daily to ensure there is enough steel shot.

  5. The lubrication parts should be ensured to be timely oiled.

  6. All personnel entering the shot blasting chamber must wear safety goggles and helmets.

Techniques for using a shot blasting cleaning machine:

  1. The dust removal system should adjust the dampers in various positions of the branch pipes to ensure reasonable wind distribution, which can enhance dust removal efficiency; the dust collector should be regularly cleaned of dust.

  2. In case the workpiece cannot be increased, adjust the directional sleeve to maximize the amount of shot thrown onto the workpiece, which can also extend the life of the protective plate and reduce its wear.

  3. During the shot blasting cleaning process, try to place more workpieces in the blasting area to improve cleaning efficiency and reduce the wear on the protective plate, thereby extending its service life.
